Iran lodges complaint at IMO against US sanctions on its ships

TEHRAN, Nov. 9 (MNA) – Iranian embassy in UK has filed a complaint at the International Maritime Organization (IMO) regarding the US’s sanctions against the Islamic Republic’s ships.

Iranian Ambassador to London Hamid Baeidinejad, in a tweet on Thursday, broke the news, saying that the embassy has submitted a letter to IMO Secretary-General Kitack Lim to protest at the reposition of the unlawful US sanctions.

He noted that the unilateral sanctions on Iran's ships violate international maritime law and put maritime security at risk.

The official added that Iran will not stop its maritime activities just because of the US’s sanctions, adding that Washington will be responsible for any incident.

The move comes in line with the US’s aim at at cutting Iran's sales of oil to zero.

IMO, with 174 member states, is tasked with regulating international shipping. The organization works to promote safe, secure, environmentally sound, efficient and sustainable shipping through cooperation.
